The fundamentals were broken down and explained, and I had multiple exercises to work towards. I not only had a better appreciation for the beautiful craft, but had animations of my own to show for it."

STRUGGLING WITH CONFIDENCE OR MOTIVATION?
STRUGGLING WITH CONFIDENCE OR MOTIVATION?
This course comes with a 9-part self-motivation series designed to boost the motivation, creativity and confidence of animation students. It is an antidote to artistic block and all of the insecurities that come with it. These episodes are dispersed throughout the course curriculum. This is what students have to say about it:
A NEW KIND OF ART SCHOOL
I spent four years and many thousands of dollars in formal education to earn my degree in Animation. This course is designed to give you that high-quality training at a fraction of the cost. Teaching everything you NEED to know, without the fluff. Giving you the freedom to learn at your own pace, from any location. Students who are already enrolled in university or college courses also like to use this course as a learning supplement.

MEET YOUR MENTOR
My name is Howard Wimshurst.
I'm an award-winning animator from London I have worked professionally for a variety of clients ranging from the BBC to Sam Kolder.
As a teacher, I have produced over 170 video lessons which have gained over 22 million collective views, but until now, my lessons have been about advanced animation topics. I have never gone in-depth with the step-by-step basics of how I make these animations, so I'm excited to finally teach you what took me 8 years to develop on my own. |
STUDENT RESULTS
"This course is like an iceberg. On the surface you get a beginner friendly start into making animation, complete with 4 projects. These alone can really wow your friends and start a portfolio. In addition, there's a huge workbook to practice specific skills that result in fun animations. But underneath you'll find so much more. How to study films to create your own compelling stories. Understanding the production pipeline. Motivation & inspiration.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What software / equipment will I need for the course?
Chapter 2 of the course gives an in-depth breakdown of hardware and software (including a variety of free software and affordable graphics tablet recommendations). I have made some of these sections freely available to preview, so if you are unsure about software, you can make more informed purchasing decisions before you buy.
Included in the course is a tutorial series on learning Adobe Animate (previously Adobe Flash) as well as a tutorial series on learning TVPaint. Adobe Animate is an easy first software for beginners to try. TVPaint is my favorite 2D animation software to use, and I recommend it the most. TVPaint is well worth the investment for anyone who is serious about learning to animate.
I guide you through the first two exercises in Adobe Flash/Animate. The walk cycle and turn and Aim animations are demonstrated in TVPaint, before long you will be able to follow along in any 2D animation software because they all operate in a similar way.
In later parts of the course I show you how I use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere and Adobe Media Encoder as part of my professional animation pipeline. You can download the Adobe creative cloud here. They have a subscription model you can pay for monthly or annually.

What if the pace is too fast?
I have designed this course so that you can go through the lessons at your own pace. You dictate how fast you learn. You can even speed up or slow down the speed at which I talk. I also understand that "life happens". If you need to take a break from the course at any time, you can return exactly from where you left off.
How do I know if your teaching style is right for me?
I have made a lot of training videos on YouTube, so if you are new to my work, you can get a feel for my teaching style by watching the videos there. In the course, I have slowed things down and gone in more depth for each concept so that no one is left behind. Some of the videos from within the course will also be made available as free samples.
Is there a time limit to passing the course?
No time limit. Once you are in, you can work through the course material as fast - or slow - as you like.
Does the course work on mobile / tablet devices?
Yes, we have many students learning on modern smart phone and tablet devices.
Can I log onto the course from multiple devices?
Yes. The Getting Started course is hosted using teachable. If you sign in to their website from any device, you can access the course once you are enrolled.
